Open Question: MLB Divisional Winners?

Does anyone know, historically, if a team wins in a division with the most teams over .500 (a strong division) does that translate into a trip to the World Series? For example, today (8.20.08) the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago Cubs both have four teams over .500 in their divisions...does this mean the likelihood of a Tampa - Chicago World Series is greater? Ok, I tracked 2002-2007...I don't know if this is enough tracking to predict a Rays-Cubs World Series, but I think I'm onto something. 2002: LAA over SFG (both teams from divisions with most teams over .500) 2003: FLA over NYY (Marlins were the wild card, but the NL East had the most teams over .500) 2004: BOS over STL *(AL West had most teams over .500) 2005: CHW over HOU *(AL Cent. had most teams over .500) 2006: STL over DET (the AL had 2 divisions with 3 teams in each over .500 and the NL had 3 divisions with 2 teams over .500 2007: BOS over COL (both teams came from divisions with most teams over .500)... read more
